Two poems by Maria Isakova-Bennett

It’s a great pleasure to be able to bring you two poems from the Liverpool based artist and poet Maria Isakova-Bennett. Maria’s work in poetry and art is interdisciplinary and complementary, often culminating in exquisite hand-stitched limited editions of poetry or even her literary journal Coast to Coast to Coast. Maria’s most recent pamphlet is …an ache in each welcoming kiss (Maytree Press, 2019). These two poems both previously appeared in the beautiful journal Finished Creatures (Issue 2, 2019). ‘Braving the Edge’, was a result of being at Aldeburgh during Maria’s residency there but it melded with ongoing work linked to the coast and river in Liverpool. The second poem, ‘Poppy Red’, was started as part of a project at a gallery, and had its origins in a reflection on a work by T.B Gould ‘Poppy Red (The Mirror)’.
